Background Information
Society continues to be concerned about the consequences
of alcohol related driving offences. Drink drivers place
themselves, other road users, their families and their
employment at risk by their actions. Attending rehabilitation
courses reduces re-offending significantly.
drivewise is a Department for Transport Approved Provider and takes
referrals directly from a number of courts. We currently
run courses regularly in Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Greater
London, Norfolk and Suffolk and occasionally run courses
in other parts of the country.
Upon conviction of a drink drive offence
offenders are referred by the court to a course provider
who must offer them a course. Whilst attendance on a course
is not compulsory, offenders who complete a course are
rewarded with a reduction in their driving ban of up to
25%.
These courses are available to any
person who wishes to attend as well as those referred by
the courts. Those referred by the courts receive a Department
for Transport certificate of completion at the end of
the course, which qualifies you for a reduction in the
disqualification period. Others are issued with a drivewise certificate
only, which may be helpful for insurance purposes, but
does not qualify you for a reduction in the disqualification
period.
drivewise aims
to make the courses friendly, informal, fun and interesting
and there are no exams to pass.
